What can your team do create smoother workflows? And how could your team work better with other UBTs to improve performance?
Billings can get tricky when it involves a third party—like when a member is hurt on the job or has an accident and is treated outside of Kaiser Permanente. To improve its third-party billings, members of the Patient Financial Services team in the Mid-Atlantic States worked with unit-based teams in Virginia and Washington D.C. They showed providers how to code for services, taught pharmacies to identify medications related to injuries and used the electronic drug information system for cross referencing. Within nine months, third-party billings shot up by a factor of nine and collections increased $50,000 in a year.
